Getting a college education is important, but what happens if you can't afford it?
For undergrad, more aid, be it financial or through scholarships, tend to be available.
When grad school starts knocking, that's when the trouble starts. Master's programs are the worst because most aid via fellowships goes to students pursuing a PhD.

I've always known graduate school was a given. I knew I didn't want to just stick with a Bachelor's. The problem though is paying for it. I know I have to take out loans regardless, but the more I can avoid them, the better. There are few scholarships and resources for students paying for a Master's. I know there's also working full time, but at least for the first year I'd like to focus solely on my schoolwork.What resources are available for Master's students?Have a reply for Patricia? If you can manage to get an assistantship, you won't have to pay tuition and THEY pay YOU.
Yeah, a research or teaching assistantship is the way to go.
yup =)
also, if you manage to get a gov't loan, at least here in Canada, it's interest free until you 6months after you graduate =) so if you MUST get a loan, maybe try for one of those?
and i'd say work part time, not full time because that might be too stressful, but really, we all have time to burn, why not make some money? get a job at a library or something for mindless work, or tutor =) ppl pay good money for tutoring, and its tax free =)
Do a graduate assistant position or a be a teachers assistant. I am a graduate assistant and the school pays for my education, room/board, gives me a stipend, and allows me to go into deferment on my loans. I have office hours and additional work which is the pits, but it beats the alternative (which is paying for it myself)
You should not have to pay for graduate school. In fact, I say if some place doesn't offer you a teaching assistantship or research fellowship, don't go to that school, and keep looking until you find somewhere else that will take you.
I just started (January) my journey toward a Doctor of Arts degree in pure and applied mathematics at Idaho State University. I'm on a graduate teaching assistantship. I pay absolutely nothing to go to school and get paid a modest amount (approx. $9400 during the calendar year and $3100 for teaching in the summer). It's not much to live on, but it's doable.

What about law school? Is there 'assistantships' for law school? If not I am fucked!
