Yard sales are a neighborhood staple, at least for me. There's the house with the table in their backyard with all types of random used items sold at cheap prices. Would you consider buying anything from there though?
At the Dollarish advice forum, Patricia@dollarish asks:
They're all around my neighborhood, especially since the weather's getting warmer. I was wondering if any of you have ever shopped at your local yard sales. Have you gotten any good deals? Let her know your suggestions by

HECK YEAH! I LOVE THRIFT SHOPPING!
A 1993 motebecane road bike for $50, and when it was just slightly fixed up, it was amazing.
I love yard sales...
my mom loves to find furniture pieces there
one time, my mom got an armani belt and a louis vuitton belt for under 5 bucks..
just go to yard sales in ritzy areas.
literally everything is a good deal. i know once i move out on my own all my furtniture will be from yard sales, 90 percent of my clothes come from yard sales and thrift stores. theyre just great and so have so much more character to them~
I sell at community yard sales all the time. Don't underestimate them. There are a lot of good things you can find. The only things I don't buy from there are clothes and furniture.
If you are lucky you may find something good, and get a great deal, but for the most part you are paying for someone else's garbage. (You deserve something new)
Yes, why not? You might find some treasures at a reasonable price. Of course, I'd stay away from personal care items like hair curling irons and certain clothing items unless still sealed in original package like socks and underpants. I once drove by a house that had like 10 Tiffany style lamps that I thought one might look cute in my office but it was late already and I didn't have any cash.
Yard sales are the bestttttttt.

YES! But it depends what you're looking for. One man's trash is another man's treasure!
I've shopped at yard sales a few times before. You can get aaaaaaaaaawesome deals, but there are some inconveniences that have made me give up on them.
#1. You must be early. Yard sales start very early on Saturday mornings (I like to sleep in), and the best stuff goes fast. There are people who are really into yard sales or really serious about finding something and will wake up very early to get what they want.
#2. The selection is unpredictable. Sometimes you'll find great deals on stuff you want, and sometimes it's just a bunch of junk. You never know. In my area, they have listings of yard sale addresses and locations with descriptions of what they'll have (baby clothes, furniture, etc). That helps narrow down your search and helps save you time.
#3. You must have patience, and you have to try, try again. I'm a little too busy now that I've got a baby to care for and a lot of other stuff I'd rather be doing (including sleep in), but the deals are waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than what you'd find on Amazon, Ebay, Craigslist, and at Half Price Books.
I, however, prefer to pay the premium for convenience of shipping or just walking into a store and buying something brand new (preferably on sale and/or with coupons). I do spend time doing product research and comparison shopping though. At least that's work I can do at home.
I guess it's all about how much you want to save money and what you're willing to do for it.
Yard sales are okay. My friend goes shopping for clothes at this thrift store, I forgot what it's called, and pays 4 dollar for designer clothes that are originally hundreds of dollars. She goes like once every week or so.
you can get toys and books for kids for like 25 cents, or sometimes free. Kids get bored of toys after a couple of days anyways, so usually not worth paying retail for them.
I love yard sales. I find great clothes and toys for my kids. Even maternity clothes. It's something I do almost every weekend! It's also a cheap way to stock up on clothes for when kids are older. I try to always have the next size ready.
Better than shopping at Wal Mart. Yard sales don't exploit human beings, they just recycle things. It's good to recycle.
OMG YES. Yard sales are amazing <3
My mom always goes and comes back with the cutest things. I would go, but you have to get up really early before all the good stuff is gone. I help my mom out when she has yard sales sometimes and we start at 7 in the morning and it's crazy how many people actually come that early. I would go for it. You could find something you really like :)
wouldn't hurt to poke around...
yipppiee yard sales<3
