Hmmm well I've bought myself an Ipod mini and it has lasted me for about four years now. That number might actually be closer to five.

I've had mine for about 5 1/2 years now.

  • WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga

I've had three and the earphone jacks seem to go out.

I have a 5th generation video iPod and it's still working like new four and a half years later.  The only thing I've had problems with are headphones themselves, but that's only because I beat mine up hardcore.

Mine lived for about 2 1/2 years. My 2nd generation is mostly dead at this point. :(. Can't keep a charge. Sadly it also has a virus or something and my bf won't let me connect it to his computer(due to minorly, almost killing his computer..even in safe mode) to at least pull the music off and get a new one.

I've had mine since Christmas of 06.  Still works fine.  You just gotta take good care of it and it should last for awhile.  Mine freezes up sometimes but it's a simple fix.  Just restart it.

i have the first generation nano 2005.. the battery lasts maybe three/four hours without too much fiddling.

  • Kaichiturtle@xanga

It all depends on how well you take care of it and sometimes just luck. My first ipod back in 2003 (3rd Generation) lasted about a year and a half before the battery died completely. My second ipod (5th Generation) lasted two years and probably would have gone on to live on if I hadn't lost it on the first day of 12th grade. And now i'm on my 3rd (ipod touch) which I got in 2007 which was going on strong until my roommate kneed on it last year. It now has a large black hole on it and sometimes freezes.

I don't have the best track record for ipods but that won't stop me for trying to get a new one this summer.

My first iPod lasted 4 years, but that was because I only used it about once a week when I first got it.  I've had my current one for a little over a year, and it's still rockin' (excuse the musical pun).

I had a 5th generation IPOD 20 GB that died on me a few months ago. (We are now in the 8th generation I believe. So it lasted me over 5 years, but what sucks is I cant even look at it to write the songs down! It won't allow you to. And no, they are from an old library before my computer crashed and I lost all the song files on it.

My first iPod (a 2nd gen scrollwheel) lasted me 4 years (and I bought it used). My nano (which came free with my computer) is now 6 years old, and as far as I'm aware, my little sisters still use it. My current iPod is about 2 years old, and I'm not having any problems with it.

My general policy is to run electronics until they're officially dead, but that's because I'm on a low-budget income in a different country. If you have the money to buy a new one and your current one really is bugging you, go for it. If you take care of it, your new iPod should last. Oh, and buy Applecare for it.

I had my first ipod (30G video) for four years and it was still working fine until I washed it and it still kinda works (the backlight is broken now). However, newer technology has a shorter life span so you have to buy the next thing, so I would start expecting your newer ipod to have a shorter life span than your previous one

  • aromes@xanga

Mine is going on it's 6th year with zero problem, as if it was brand new from this morning. Rock solid

  • supcheyenne@xanga

    I got mine my 16th birth day, and I'm 18 now...and it's still going strong :)

  • SakuraStarlight@xanga

My friend has one of the first iPod Videos that came out, and it still works. Sure, the screen is a little scratched, but it's survived for quite a while. My iPod Touch is about a year and three months old. I'm really particular about that thing though. I make sure I take super good care of it because I know if it breaks, I won't have the money to get another.

  • Snuphalufa_Neff@xanga

Mine is about three years old. It's a second generation iPod nano. I've replaced the battery once (about a year ago. this is really worth it. It costs between $10-40 to change a battery, depending on the model of iPod, where you're getting it done, and if you chose to do it yourself). I use it every day and it's still in reasonable condition.

  • Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga

I've have an ipod in different forms for about 3 years & they all work. I wish they made a way to get a new battery instead of having to buy a brand new device though. These things are not cheap. That's why I was hesitant to make the switch from MP3 player to iPod. Then my dad got me one & I love it.

There's still pros & cons for the Ipod but I may end up getting an MP3 player again anyway because the Ipod pisses me off with some things. Like it only plays MP3s, not wavs or other media files. I have the means to convert the files but it takes so long & it'll take up more space on my computer.
  • bonEtuh@xanga

i've had my ipod for almost 3 years and it's fine. it's only frozen once. i don't use it everyday though.

  • xlostinthecityx@xanga

    ipod s not that expensive...

  • onlyinmydreams89@xanga

if you take good care of your ipod, it should last for a good 5 years or so. I've have my iPod touch for only a year & it's just like I bought it today. Don't make the mistake of buying the new iPods right when they come out. I did that and have 4 different iPods...just a waste of money when they all work well.
