  • Advice: I'm Starting to Hate My Job...Help!

It can be tough anytime you start hating your job, but it's even harder when the economy is struggling.

Over in Advice, too_pretty_to_die@xanga asks about what to do:

I currently work as an office manager in a very small company... only me and two other people, and one of them is the President.  originally, I was told I'd be doing a lot of graphic and web design work (my main interest).  Lately, however, that has only been about 10% of my daily responsibilities.  I do mostly accounting, sales, data entry, and general clerical stuff.

Now... this job doesn't pay all that well.  and I don't get any benefits or health insurance.  The only real perks are that it's full-time, M-F 9-5, and the dress code is super relaxed.   I'm starting to really dislike my job and wish that I was doing more of what I thought I was originally hired for.  And over the last couple of weeks, I know it's begun affecting my job performance.  Now, I'm worried about losing my job altogether before I can have anything else lined up.

This is a two-part question:  is there a right way to ask my boss about this, so that maybe we could work something out?  I brought it up to him once in a very informal way, and he seemed very apathetic.  or, do you think it'd be worth it to really try looking for another job?

And, can you think of anything i could do to keep my job performance stellar?  I've never really struggled with this kind of thing before... even when i had past jobs I didn't like, it never kept me from doing my job well.  I figure that next week is something resembling a fresh start.
