  • Weird Things People Freeze to Save Money

Keeping your freezer stocked full of food you're able to score on sale is a common way use their freezer to save money. But what about freezing other things to save some dough?

This recent post over at The Huffington Post has a list of some items the author keeps in the freezer to save money in one way or the other. There was a lot of new information for me in this post, and I might start adding some weird stuff to my freezer too!  If you open his freezer you might see:

    • Candles: Freezing your candles will help them burn longer.
    • Batteries: While less true for alkaline batteries, freezing other types like NiMH and Nicad  batteries can result in the batteries keeping a charge for much longer, possibly up to 90%!
    • Wine Cubes: Turning leftover wine into wine cubes is a way to have small amounts on hand when you need to cook with it.
    • Woodworm-infested items: The author has a souvenir mask in his freezer, but apparently if you put a wooden item in the freezer that have woodworms for a couple of weeks, the worms and all their eggs will die.
    • Pantyhose: The author's wife swears that storing pantyhose in the freezer helps prevent runs.

I liked the idea of wine cubes and it's a nice way to cook with wine without having to open up a whole new bottle. The pantyhose thing may work, but I'm trying to imagine putting on ice-cold pantyhose!  I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the idea of keeping batteries around my food, unless maybe they were in some kind of container. The only weird thing you'll see in my kitchen is that I store my nicer nail polish in a separate compartment (away from the food) in the fridge because it keeps it from thickening up and getting gloppy.Oh, and sometimes I keep spoons in the freezer to put over my eyes when they need some de-puffing.

Have you ever heard of freezing these things? Have you heard of any other weird things you can freeze? Do you store anything in your freezer?
