Advice: Where Can I Find Cheap, Work Appropriate Clothes?
They always say that you should dress for the job you want, but how can you do that on the budget of the job you have? Dressing for success can be difficult without getting that success part first!
Over in Advice, Sarah asked about building up her work wardrobe:
I've been recycling the same couple of outfits at work for the past several weeks, and it's got to stop. I feel like I'm never going to get a raise or be taken seriously unless I start dressing better, but right now I just don't have the capital.
Where can I find cheap work clothes appropriate for an office job?
Offer her some suggestions by replying to her Advice post.

Try the different stores on eBay. I buy a lot of brand new, name brand things on there all the time. Top quality and I pay what I want to pay for it.
It might sound weird but check your local salvation army, the clothes are cheap to begin with and they run specials where certain color tags are 50% off. There are lots of times I've found slacks and blouses there with the tags still on them. It won't be anything fancy most likely but you could get some good basic pieces and then use any extra money you have to buy a nicer shirt or accessories to make the outfit stand out more.
Target has reasonably priced cute clothes that are work appropriate
Goodwill or Savers, or any consignment store. Most of the clothes they have just need a good washing and they're good to go. Can buy a wardrobe for under $100 if need be.
Target! They have some really cute clothes that are totally work appropriate that won't completely break the bank. Try to buy basics and neutrals so you can mix and match. I have bought a couple of blazers from there for around $30, which is a steal. Also, JCP usually has some great sales/deals on suiting separates. Or try outlet stores. I have found some great pieces at Banana Republic and Gap outlets.
Old Navy
Target, Old Navy and Banana Republic (I scour the clearance section) all has reasonably priced items that if bought properly, can be used and reused in several different outfits. I also go to nicer thrift stores. I bought my interview ensemble at a local thrift store for about twenty bucks.
target is a good choice.
TJ Maxx, Ross, places like that are always good, I always see business clothes there. Also, go to the mall and places like Gap, Banana Republic, Guess, Dillards, Macy's, etc. might not be the best place to buy full price from, but look closely through clearance racks and you can get amazing deals.
a goodwill in my area had a half off sale. i grabbed a bunch of office / formal wear on the cheap. three ties for $10. dkny, calvin klein brands. $3 dress shirts, and grabbed a blazer for $5. even w/ out the half off, the place is like heaven. you just gotta dig though.
Nordstrom Rack, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Gap, etc.
