Advice: Are Certified Used Cars a Good Deal?
Over in Advice, omelettedufromage asks about the worth of a certified used car vs. a brand new one:
I'm shopping around for a new car, but I've read a lot about certified used vehicles. Is this a better deal in the long run?

certified or second hand cars are a good deal if you dont have the money to buy a new car but be wary because a lot of those "certified" are fakes. if it were me, i would buy a certified as opposed to an ad i saw in the paper because its "better". to each is his/her own. of course if i have the money, i would buy a brand new car. brand new is even better :)
While new is great, for example, if you purchase a CPO BMW through BMW, they provide a MUCH better warranty than what you would get on a new purchase. It's something worth looking into.
The problem I see, is you just don't get that new car smell.
I just purchased a one-year old car that was the dealer loaner car. They would 'certify' it for an extra $600, which would have extended the warranty 2 more years but I was already getting most of the 3 year warranty anyway so I saved myself some cash and took it without the certification.
