What Embarassing Items Do You Buy Online?
A recent Fast Company study showed that, even in the midst of the recession, online purchases have continued to increase. The study showed that 154 million people, which is almost half the entire US population, bought something online in 2009.
Many people are starting to buy online more often than in stores.
I have one friend who buys clothes online exclusively. Of course, he is a guy, so it's a little easier for him to buy clothes without trying them on. Others even buy food items because they can get them cheaper online than in grocery stores. This trend hearkens back to the days of home milk delivery.
This same friend also orders condoms from Amazon (he would kill me if he knew I was writing this!) - guess it might save some awkwardness at the drug store counter. I wonder what other embarrassing items people are opting to buy online instead of in stores. I'm sure the 16-year guy old behind the counter wouldn't mind avoiding having to scan a cute girl's purchase of tampons or Preparation H.
But I'm curious, what do you buy online as opposed to in stores and why? Is the price better or is it just more convenient? Or does the embarrassment factor come in?

I shop on Amazon a lot, mainly because of Swagbucks and the free gift cards I get and sometimes other stores if there's a really good deal (Cyber Monday and such). I also buy nearly all of my maternity clothes online because no stores sell my size (XS). The only "embarassing" items I've purchased online were pregnancy tests, but that was because they're much cheaper online.
I dont buy anything embarrassing but I shop online for cheaper prices. Like with the New Moon DVD set I want (which is out next Saturday!!!), I had a coupon with Borders & that combined with getting it at the pre-order price, I got it $21 cheaper with FREE shipping. I can wait to see it. True fans have patience!
My mom owns an assisted living (kind of a retirement/nursing home) and I am constantly buying adult diapers online for her. It's just too embarassing to be in Walmart purchasing 10 bags of adult diapers ugh
i usually buy hard-to-find items online as well as finding better deals. and yes, for the convenience.
I don't think buying condoms is embarrassing. It's just a part of life... for me, at least.
Then again, I've bought a toy in person before.
I buy books online because my local Chapters hardly ever has the ones I want in stock. Sometimes I'll use eBay to get something that's typically expensive for a better price than in stores.
Buying condoms is embarrassing? Those are her pleasure condoms too! I wouldn't be embarrassed by that. I'd feel like a saint.
It's not like they were extra small, only his pleasure condoms for extreme douchebags only.
Haha, that would be hilarious
I don't think I've bought anything embarrassing online. Well, ok... maybe once. ;)
I've bought a lot of specialty food items, books, household items and the like because they're just plain CHEAPER online. Oh, and some things you can only buy online.... so yeah. :)
I don't think condoms are particularly embarrassing, though. *shrug*
@Morningstarrising@xanga - There's another interesting question. Is it more socially acceptable for guys to buy condoms - seems to be regarded as more of a matter of pride. I personally don't think so - the only time I've been embarassed buying them was when a family with 3 kids got behind me in line.
@SexInChurch@datingish - If your mom is running an assisted home - it really is in your best interest to shop online for incontinence products. The products that are carried at your local box store, retail store, grocery store are just not the same grade as what you can find online.
She would find huge cost savings by shopping online for hospital grade incontinence products. When you buy incontinence products that are hospital grade - you don't have to change as frequently. Why? because the inner core absorbs faster and holds more - not only do you have less cost because your adult diapers/adult briefs hold more and you change less frequently (3 times in 24 hrs with some brands) - but because there's no leakage - you also save on laundry costs. Because you're only changing 3 times in 24 hrs - there's less labor costs for changing, etc. Which also means you're using less of other products like barrier creams, wipes, etc.
Think about it - if you're spending 90 cents/adult diaper/brief at your local store - and you're using 5-7 briefs a day (sometimes even doubling up on briefs which leads to rashes & infections) - you're spending $5-$7/day on diapers (not to mention the extra creams, labor costs, etc). If you're changing only 3-4 times a day with a diaper that costs $1.55 - you're only spending $4.65-$6.20 a day - and saving on the extra creams, linens, labor, etc.
Recently, I've been receiving a lot of calls from people who've been using D#pends - and I'm told that they don't much volume, they're not very long in the length (so many people have issues with the diaper/brief bunching down on them) and they're ripping. That's the difference between what you buy retail and when you buy hospital grade.
I've written several articles on incontinence products that you can read here:

I'll shop around for something unless i have to have it NOW . I often buy used books on line and I tend to sell stuff back after I am finished with it. Selling books on Ebay that I have finished reading helps keep the cost down too.
I don't think I would be too embarrassed about something. I don't let it bother me, fear of what other people will think...
