    Is Stubhub.com Reliable?

I discovered Stubhub.com because I wanted get Yankees-Red Sox tickets.  Oddly, you can't purchase regular season tickets off of Yankees.com yet and I was itching to see a game.  Someone suggested I try Stubhub and, sure enough, they had them for sale.   But after awkwardly perusing the site, I keep thinking to myself: is this site for real?

This is what I learned:  StubHub is definitely reliable in terms of the legitimacy of your tickets.  It's not a like Craiglist's scam.  If you buy from them, you'll be going to the game.  And you don't have to worry about picking up tickets from the dealer.  Or even waiting anxiously for them to arrive in the mail.  StubHub will email you your tickets, which can be printed out and then scanned at the event.

Where do these tickets come from?

Stubhub is fueled by season ticket holders who don't want to see a particular game.  Or, more notably, want to turn a nice profit on-demand series (ie. the Red Sox at the Yankees).  This is why one person selling bleacher tickets is charging $50, while another has them listed at $80.  Which means that while sellers aren't completely scamming you, they aren't exactly being benevolent either.

The average running price for Grandstand tickets to the Yanks-Sox series on StubHub was $70.  But ticketmaster.com had them listed at $30.  Field tickets running around $150 were nearly double on StubHub.  I guess this means that the site is useful if you want to score on demand tickets.  But that it's not exactly a place to visit when you are looking for a discount.

Then again, I'm a Yankee fan.  Maybe, say, Nets fans have better luck.

What do you think about StubHub?  Have you used it?  Have you ever gotten tickets at a steal?
