Advice: How Much Should I Charge for Babysitting?
Babysitting is a rite of passage for a lot of teens, but with inflation and the changing world, how should babysitters' rates change?
Over in Advice, Penny_Pincher is asking about that. She asks:
I haven't babysit in a while, and when I did it was always for family, but my neighbor just asked me to babysit her two daughters on Saturday night. They are sweet little girls, 4 yrs old and 6 yrs old. How much should I charge her per hour?

I charge between $10-15 an hour.
Factors include: number of kids, additional responsibilities (cleaning, cooking, diapers, etc...)
It really depends on geographical location, family's income, and if the kids are awake the whole time. The largest factor seeming to be geography.
In the midwest I never make less than $8/hr which is for a max of two kids. I probably averaged $12/hr for 3-4.
A year ago, in the southwest, I made far less... 6-9/hr.
I would check babysitting registries online for comparable areas to get an idea of what is fair.

@ELIZerson@xanga - Well if you're in the suburbs, like me, or if you're sitting in a wealthy town, I would charge probably $12. $6 for each kid
