    Well if you want to spend an hour buffering movies on hulu then go with the slower one...

    It really depends on what you use it for. If you don't do a lot of streaming or downloading, you probably won't benefit enough to be worth it.Personally, I value my time so much that I'd go for the higher speed in a second. Hulu, YouTube, DailyMotion, Vimeo, Pandora, if you use any of those, services, you'll definitely want the faster connection.

    The other thing to think about, though, is the monthly max for your ISP. If you can get 20Mbps down, but cannot stream very much without hitting your cap, you won't be happy.

    That's a pretty extreme difference. In my opinion 1mbps is really slow;  I download files at 2mbps sometimes.  I like the faster Internet for torrenting and general browsing of the internet.  If your budget is tight try the 1mbps and upgrade as needed.

    I would go with the higher speed, to be honest.  We have about 10 different options with my cable/internet provider.  We chose a mid-grade one, and we're able to buffer movies pretty quickly, and my husband is able to game pretty well with it as well.

    My mom has cheap internet, and not only can my laptop NOT connect wirelessly, but when I do connect using an ethernet cable, it's so slow it's almost not worth it. When I go to my boyfriend's, I can connect wirelessly and everything is fast and it just makes a huge difference, especially if i'm watching something on youtube. The videos load so much faster

    Yep go the faster one..otherwise it will leave you very dissapointed and it will just waist a whole lot of your time..and if that happens you may just learn a whole lot of swear words as I did..cheers.

    It depends on if you have cable TV or not.  I dropped cable TV, and I have Netflix, Xbox, and hulu to replace it.  I can get most of what I watched still, and its only half the cost with the fast internet.

    Faster internet is always the better option. Go for that, and if need be, eat less.

    Mine is around 13 mbps and the speed feels average when watching videos on the net.

    thats pretty expensive considering theres so many IPs out there. thank god i have a cheap one :}

    Try OpenDNS.  That will connect you with the nearest available server for sites that are hosted in multiple locations whereas your ISP will just give you a round-robin DNS response from the whole list of addresses.  A bonus is that it also gives you filtering options; known botnet and phishing hosts are filtered by default.
