  • What Are Your Financial Vices?

I'm trying to be good. I pay attention to sales, avoid buying stuff I don't need, etc. etc., but every once in a while a find myself being irresponsible with my money. And, more often than not, it has to do with alcohol—my financial vice. (Disclaimer: I'm of age, don't hate.)

Okay, buying a cheap bottle of rum, vodka, whatever, or a cheaper box of wine is actually is pretty economical way to lubricate your evening, but where alcohol really trips up my spending habits is out on the town. In a word: bars.

Bar drinks, especially in cities, are always major ripoffs. They're usually $6–$8, and a tip is expected, and once you order one, it's pretty easy to order one or two more. I went to a concert with a friend a couple of weeks ago, and we spent as much money on drinks as we did on tickets.

It's a little funny (especially when you're drunk), but mostly, racking up a bar tab is just wasteful. To try to curb my habit, I'm going to start limiting myself to one drink when I go out, and try to get into purchasing the aforementioned cheap bottles and boxes for at-home enjoyment.

What are your financial vices? What are you doing to change your habits?
