You're Hired! Finding a New Job
FueltotheFire@xanga just started a new blog about her experiences changing jobs. Check out the first entry below...
I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business. Shortly before my graduation date I received a part time job with a promise of becoming full time. This job never actually became full time and there has been no mention of benefits. So, I started looking for a new job a few months ago. Now I've just been hired and I'd like to devote this blog to the trials of this job search and taking on a new job.So this first entry on the subject is going to focus on that devastating job search that led me to this place. I searched while having an almost full time job so that made interviewing harder, though not impossible. My search started by signing up on several different websites including Monster and a few local newspaper online job searches. I checked these daily. I also looked up the several largest companies in town and checked their websites regularly. All the banks in town also got a thorough applying to.
Every position I found that had benefits and full time hours that I was capable of doing I applied for. (I really wanted to leave my current job!) I put out 50 or more applications a week. Some days I'd get into the 40's. I did this until I absolutely ran out of applications and resumes to send. Part of my search also involved writing a custom cover letter for each position that I could attach a cover letter to the resume or application.
After months of searching and trying I finally started getting interviews. The first bunch were all no's. About three weeks ago I went to an interview at a large company that I had applied to. I was immediately invited to a second interview. After that it was a two week wait to hear anything. I called a couple of times to see if there were any updates, but tried very hard not to be pushy.
A few days ago they called me and I got the position. I went in yesterday and signed some paperwork and took a drugtest. All seems to have gone well.
Did any of your jobs ever not materialize as promised? Have you ever tried looking for work while working full time?

I have looked while being employed full time and went to several interviews on my lunch breaks. None of which ever turned out to be anything, and now that I did quit my full-time job it's harder than ever to find a job. I had an interview on Tuesday and I can only hope that it went well. Keeping my fingers *Double* crossed.
Congrats on your new job, I hope they treat u very well. take care =)
Actually, I just got hired about two hours ago for a position overseas. I'm in grad school right now with an assistantship and a part time job. But I was applying for something when all this is over.
I'm glad you got the job!
Congratulations! You worked very hard for it :)
