Job-wise, I think everyone has a breaking point, a line partitioning the acceptable from the unacceptable. Maybe you don't want to have to be on your feet all day, or lift heavy objects, or work with children (or adults). Maybe you need to be outside, or doing something beneficial to society, or making a lot of money. I'm not that picky, but there is one line I will not cross—I will forever avoid jobs that make me sing.
Office birthday parties? Sure. The occasional restaurant guest with a birthday? Okay. Maybe. But a singing-intensive job, like Cold Stone, would probably cause me to collapse into the brownie batter before my shift was half complete. I'm just not cheerful enough, or good at faking being cheerful, or sufficiently vocally endowed to pull it off.
Where do you draw the line? Have you ever redrawn it when times were tough?Image Source

...avoiding a job where you have to sing is not that difficult.
I've never been to a Cold Stone where the employees sing.
When I saw this entry, I immediately thought of Johnny Rockets and I thought that's what it'd be about. I don't think I could ever work at a Johnny Rockets because of the singing and dancing.
Huh...I've never heard anyone sing in a Cold Stone either. And I really can't imagine a job where you would sing much more than for the occasional birthday. What do they do at your Cold Stones?
All the coldstones I go to sing constantlyyyy. I went to a johnny rockets and they didn't lol. The coldstones take popular songs and then change the words around. They sing everytime they get a tip or something. and they have MANY songs lol.
I <3 Johnny Rockets. It's so cute when they sing. Anytime I've ever heard anyone sing at Cold Stone it just felt awkward.
@shpadoinkle12@xanga - @ cold stone they're supposed to sing these pop songs with the words changed whenever they get a tip.
@frozencherries@xanga - Wow...that WOULD be annoying! Don't think I've ever heard that at the stores up here!
I guess if you don't like singing you would definately stay away from any jobs that require singing. That said - I teach at a middle school. There are many, many times when I will either create a song to help them learn a new concept or just sing a snippet of a song to go along with something that we are learning. The kids seem to enjoy my singing (though I have to be honest and say that they don't like learning the songs when I ask them to). I guess the time and place has to be right. BTW - I've had kids come back years later and sing me one of those dreaded songs that I wanted them to learn. It slipped into their brains anyway!
I would sing for a job, if they were desperate enough to hire me with my limited vocal abilities...
I won't work in a job where the people are annoyingly stuck up or pretentious. I would much rather have to sing, even badly and embarrassingly, than have to deal with people who look down their noses at others or put on airs of superiority. And those are always the people who start off the office politics, too. No thank you!
Tra la la la...
