  • Do Multinational Coroporations Have Souls?

I hope they won't fire the guy. I really hope they won't. He didn't mean it.

Tonight, while me, my mom and my aunt took off for Wal-mart, my uncle stayed in the car for a short nap when he heard a loud thud from behind. A long line of carts smashed the car's bumper leaving it torn and hanging... but don't be so quick to judge the cart collector. It wasn't the his fault. My uncle clearly witnessed what happened, and I hope surveillance cams did too. So a young Caucasian lady was stupid enough to try and wrench a cart from a running mass. The cart collector, whose name I remember was Joe, swerved to prevent the line of carts from directly hitting her, plunging into the car instead. And guess what, that lady ran back to Wal-mart after a short row with Joe, like nothing happened. How irresponsible of her! Reckless no-brainer!

Don't get me wrong. I'm a lil' upset because Joe's the one who has to face the consequences and worse... the blame. I'm afraid they'll fire him. He was a nice Caucasian bloke in his late-forties and he looked miserable. He was slumped down low apologizing repeatedly as if it was his mistake. You and I know that with the extremity of the number of unemployed Americans, a job can be an all or nothing life support. It's not easy landing a job in the midst of this crushing recession. He probably has a family waiting for him at home, relying on the handful of cash he makes pushing carts night by night. What will they have left if he loses his job? The last thing we need is more jobless workers.

Then again, I hope they won't fire him. I hope the Wal-mart management will dig deep into their souls and reconsider. Or do multinational corporations still have souls for the digging?
