Auto Wraps: Get Paid to Drive
Thoughmomma@xanga sent us a cool article on AOL about how some advertisers are willing to pay everyday people to "wrap" their cars in promotional material. You can make $300 to $900 a month driving around with trolls on your Jetta, for example, which would be applied in vinyl decals. Advertisers typically require a six- to ninth-month commitment, and ask their drivers to burn at least 1000 miles of rubber per month.
The auto wrap industry is about ten years old, although advertisers used to actually provide their drivers with custom-painted cars, an approach that proved too expensive in the long term. Business suffered in the middle of the decade, due to the rising popularity of internet ads, and the 2008 spike in gas prices didn't help either. But advertisers say the recession and falling gas prices have given the auto wrap business a much-needed boost.
The auto wrap appeal is that it provides a more personal form of advertising, allowing the client "to have a conversation with the consumer," in the words of the president of Free Car Media, one auto wrap provider.
Auto wrap advertisers receive a large number of applicants, whom they select based on a number of factors, like your location, commute, and if you have children. Stay-at-home moms are a big get for the wrap car industry.
Typically, advertisers don't want wrapped-car owners to simply drive around aimlessly. They're hoping to catch people involved in their communities, their children's schools, whatever, who will be able to talk up the brand while driving it around. Some drivers even carry around coupons for the products on their cars, or write blog entries promoting the same.
Two of the biggest auto wrap advertisers are Free Car Media and DrivenMedia, which you can apply for free of cost.
Would you consider driving around a wrapped car? Does this sound like an effective means of advertising?

interesting. i don't think i could do it what with classes and work but it seems really cool.
Gosh darn if I drove around more I would apply! This reminds me of that renting out your forehead for advertising... LOL
Wow I should look into that. Some weeks I drive over 1000 miles let alone months.
It def sounds like a good deal for the person who owns the car, if they drive alot already that is.
sounds interesting, I should definitely sign up for it since me driving to work alone 6 days a week, I burn 50+ miles a day!
Hell yes.
I would join!
I've heard of this before, back when they still gave the cars, and considered doing it then. The geographical requirements were extremely stringent at the time. If you didn't live in a large metropolitan area you wouldn't be accepted for the program.
I would do it, then and now. I drive a lot, and while I don't live in a large community, I frequently drive to large cities over heavily travelled highways. I would be happy to hand out coupons and blog about it, too.
And every penny helps these days, even if I have to put pictures of nasty old troll dolls all over my beautiful car.
@tigerdauphin@xanga - ...is that a thing? :P
@sarah - Yeah it's actually real! There was a company that was paying mucho dollar for people willing to "rent out" their forehead for logos. Lease Your Body has been around for a bit (year or so) so I have no idea how successful they are.
considered for these programs. A company called My Car Makes Cash worked for me and 2
of my friends. They’re free and they’re trustworthy. Here’s the link for those
of you interested. They contacted me within a week of signing up. http://mycarmakescash.com/ hope this helps- good luck!!
I would do it!
I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO!
It's super easy to join the club at my car makes cash. It only took a couple minutes, and they don't ask for my a credit card or social security number. It's definitely legit. Here's the direct link: http://mycarmakescash.com/index.php?page=join+4+free
