  • AARP Helps Whipper Snappers with Their Money

Speaking of old people, the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) recently launched a new site catering to, surprisingly, youngsters. It's called LifeTuner.org, and it's full of personal finance tips and tools aimed at readers in their twenties and thirties. The site also has a social networking component—the phrase "social networking" has been making my eyes roll lately—because we all know how kids today love to blog, comment, and connect with each other.

So, why does AARP care about young people? Well for one thing, many of us will probably be AARP members eventually. And in the meantime, many of our parents and grandparents already are, and statistics show they've been sharing the wealth—almost 70 percent of AARP-ers give financial support to their children, according to USA Today.

Still in its beta stages, LifeTuner is offers an intriguing, modern design (read: lots of Helvetica) and a Facebook-like feed on the front page directing users to the latest posts, comments, etc. Short and sweet articles offering financial tips abound, and users who sign up can use several interactive tools to map out their money, figure out how to play off credit card debt, and more. The site is totally free for now, and without ads.

Are you interested in advice from the AARP? What websites (besides Dollarish ) do you visit to get your financial fix?

I'm not at all interested in AARP at the moment. I wonder if, as well, they may be worried about losing money if health care reform goes through and are trying to expand their horizons and attract a new customer base? Maybe not, maybe that's way off base, I know little about AARP. :p I know that my grandfather was a member, and I know what the commercials say, and that's it.

As for financial advice websites, I don't go to many. Dollarish is the only one I can think of at this particular moment. :p Wow, that's surprising and kinda sad.
