Rotting Fruit
So, I walk my dog around my new neighborhood and I see lot of fruit trees people planted in their yard. I'm guessing either previous owner planted it or owner thought they were planting fruitless trees.
I guess what I'm trying to say is even in tough economy people really don't care they have rotting fruit on their lawn. I've tasted some of it hanging out on to the public street and it tasted just fine albit mini-me sized fruits.
Does anyone think it's wrong to waste food?

yes
I previously lived in a condo and the backyard had lemon trees, planted by the people who lived before us. The lemons were huge but the inside barely had any juice so the most we used them for was the fish we cooked. :P
Yes, it's a waste if people leave the fruit outside but I don't know where you would take it to give away. My family did give the lemons away to church members, but that was because we had no one else to give it to.
Yes I hate wasting food. I always feed like I'm killing a child somewhere in the world if I waste food. I wish I had a fruit tree in my yard. It would be awesomeness.
Its definitely wrong to waste food. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do such a thing. For one thing, the economy's shot and if you've got your own fruit growing, its one less thing you need to buy. One more thing you could possibly help out your neighbors. And let's not forget all of the people in the world, even in just America, who have no food of their own...
I know that sounds like something that your parents might say to you when you're a kid and not wanting to eat all of your peas or something, but it really is true. :/
I'm this close to trying dumpster-diving, just to rub the good food in the faces of wasteful people, ha.
Yes. There are so many food banks that are in need of food and stuff and could use the fruit and food that is wasted. I am sure that if they let them know, someone would come to pick the fruits to help others.
to me it's wrong , but it's not that big dial any one can do that
(raising hand) I sure do. In fact, I'm so against food waste, I write a blog on the topic (WastedFood.com) and am working on a book.
There are some tree gleaning groups that go around picking fruit that the tree's owners won't use. They donate most or all of the gatherings to food banks. I'm not sure where you live, but It's worth looking into whether there's a group around. If not, maybe you can start it!
We have a cherry tree in our front yard, but my mom said the kind of cherries that grow on the tree are poisonous to humans. That's my reason for not eating it! Often people's yard apple trees are really sour or like... sandy tasting in texture. And a lot of Chinese people have decoration mini-orange trees. The oranges don't taste good at all!
In summation, the fruit off yard trees I've had experience with are poisonous, badly textured, or bad tasting. Nothing I'd want to eat!
They're not going to waste anyway if we don't eat them, birds and rodents eat the fruits, and then the rest of it rots away and is good for compost purposes.
whatever becomes rotten, isn't really "wasted" it'll provide food for birds and other animals/insects which will help with fertilization and pollenation
I used to work at one of those food places that were very strict with their rules. I mean, you HAD to throw the food away after the date and time labeled on it. You couldn't eat it yourself, you couldn't take it home. You just had to throw it away, even if it was five minutes past it's designated shelf life. It just killed me every time I threw something away. The whole time I'm thinking, that homeless guy sittin on the sidewalk out there would sure as hell enjoy this. Hell, I would even enjoy this. Sometimes, if it was something yummy, I would stare at it and think of ways to sneak it and eat it. I have even offered to pay for the item, but I wasn't allowed to. It sucks. I hate companies, and I hate the world and how it is today.
