  • Is Your Job Making You Sick?

The economy could not get any worse. Unemployment rate is high, but what about the people that are left in the work place? Even though they may seem lucky to have their jobs, the work load doesn't get any easier for them.

In health.com's article, they have found that one of three workers suffer from depression. Many others feel very stressed, have trouble sleeping at night, and others have been treated for high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

According to Families and Work Institute study, many workers with excellent heath in 2002 dropped in 2008. When they tried to explain the facts, the answer was the population was just getting older. However, the study found the factors have been associated with the responsibilities at work and the changes in the economy. This means that many people were uncertain about their careers and personal life. Without a steady balance between the work place and home, many employees' healths have fallen, young and old.

The study has also shown that employees with sick pay days and vacation days are healthier than those without that option. Though, it may cost the company more, it allowed the employees respect the work environment and worked more efficiently.

Ellen Galinsky, the FWI’s president and co-founder suggested to managers to talk their employees to understand what workers are going through and be able to set up better hours to manage their personal lives.

She has also suggested workers should take charge of their health outside of the work place, such as exercising.

How are you handling the stress at work?
