Best Jobs in America: Did Yours Make the List?
MONEY and Payscale.com have released their list of the best jobs in America (see the article on CNN.com).
The list of the Top 50 jobs was chosen and ranked by:
"MONEY and compensation experts Payscale.com started with more than 7,000 jobs and then focused on jobs that the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects will grow 10% or more over the next decade and that require at least a bachelor's degree. Using PayScale's proprietary compensation data, we screened out titles with median pay below $65,000 for experienced workers (at least two to seven years of experience in the field, depending on the job) and fewer than 10,000 positions nationwide."Then they further narrowed the list by eliminating jobs that did poorly during the recession, surveying employees, and interviewing experts.
They ranked the Top 10 jobs as:
10) Sales Director
9) Intelligence Analyst
8) Network Security Consultant
7) Physical Therapist
6) CPA
5) IT Project Manager
4) Nurse Practitioner
3) College Professor
2) Physician Assistant
1) Systems EngineerSee the Top 50 here, along with breakdowns according to quality of life, high pay, job growth and sectors: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/2009/full_list/index.html
What do you think of these rankings- would you like any of these jobs? Or maybe you have had one. In that case, what do you think of it?

I'm currently studying to become a college professor (number 3)!!
I love the idea of it because you practically make your own hours. I love the idea of working in a lab too so I feel as if it would be perfect for me.
My future profession is #2. =] Two years down, four more to go.
Number 12(Software Engineer).. not bad and only with a BS
HA HA HA! No. 6!!!!
I was laid off last year and my current job doesn't have much career advancement. I still have $40K of student loans to pay off. And I still live with my parents and can't afford to buy my home. (And yes, I am a CPA. Well, passed all the exams and wrapping up the paper work to get my license.)
College grads usually get great offers from Big 4 accounting firms - but you have to work crazy hours for busy season. In the end, the hourly wage is not necessary that high. =T
I'm surprised to see CPA lands on No. 6. Really do. I'm sure it'll be off the list if they factor in the number of working hours =P (And rmb - big 4 accounting firms don't give out OT)
Wow...to me every one of those jobs would be so incredibly boring it's not even funny...or it deals with gross medical stuff that would make me pass out!
Funny thing is I could probably eventually get a job in the IT fields...I do have a B.S. degree in computer info systems...but I think I would rather kill myself than be trapped in an office all day!
I will stick with driving a school bus...it is great, low stress, easy, get outside...and when I get sick of that, I will go into construction. Let's see those jobs get outsourced...Sure, I won't become rich, but I will at least be happy!
My job is on the list. But I think a "best" job is a very subjective topic. Perhaps a better title is list of best jobs financially.
@mich28@xanga - I don't know of a firm that does pay OT, at least not salaried positions anyway. Congrats on passing the exam, I am still in the studying stage myself. The offers from the Big 4 are great, but this past year the number of grads they hired dropped a lot, along with every other firm in my area. I am currently doing a lot of temp work, which provides some interesting experiences, but isn't ideal in regards to job security. Try to see the positives in having only one company to work for.
Awesome. I want to be numero 3.
I'm so surprised that Stage Management isn't on there. *Sarcasm*
woot! physical therapy.
