The New York
Daily News had a very enlightening
article yesterday about a new trend in the drug/career world: "Stiletto Stoners." This refers to the growing population of high-powered career women who like to indulge in marijuana after a hard day's work — a trend chronicled in the November issue of
Marie Claire.
Pot holds a number of appeals for professional women: it's relaxing, relatively cheap, and comes with a low risk factor. Marie Claire cited a study where eight million women admitted to using marijuana at least once in the last year. Thirteen states have decriminalized marijuana, making possession a minor offense, about as serious as a parking ticket. The article also pointed to states like California, where medical marijuana has been legal since 1996, which increases the ease of access for patients—and their friends. About 31,000 Californians currently hold prescriptions.
It's still up for debate how addictive or harmful marijuana is, though some experts link the drug to lung and neck cancer.
Does this workplace trend surprise you? What (legal) things do you do to de-stress?

I love my CA
XD and nope, not particularly because of where i come from. Lots of people smoke it here. If it isn't pot it's drinking.
Masturbation is my favorite De-stress technique. Marijuana should have never been made illegal. It would be clever to add trace amounts of poison to the distributed marijuana, which would effectively prevent abuse.
I do exactly what the stiletto stoners do, i smoke a big bowl of weed. its very relaxing. and easy to get. i support legalization 100%.
haha! that's funny! i wouldn't do that though, i don't want to smoke anything of any sort, especially not with pet birds in the house
Marijuana is not addictive at all. And to overdose, you'd probably have to smoke your weight in it in a 24 hour period (something that is pretty much impossible). The only reason it's illegal is because of the prohibition movement, which made all alcohol and drugs illegal. While some of those bans were later on lifted, obviously some have still not been.
Marijuana is a wonderful thing, and has no place being illegal.
@Heatherwhoelse@xanga - Yeah. You're all for personal satisfaction, nothing else, right?
Is "professionals" the new name for "hookers"? Because last time I checked stilettos were not common in a professional environment. Must be some loser in his mother's basement coming up with these dumb names.
I'm all for legalization.
Honestly, I could use some.
@Shy___Away@xanga - When you get to the point of throwing up from smoking too much your brain is literally one bong away from an aneurysm which means death and is essentially an over dose.
@Heatherwhoelse@xanga - @aplynch1@xanga -
Is everyone so fucked from smoking copious amounts of weed that they do not realise the harmful effects.
Ooooh it makes me relaaxxeed so it must be fine!
Yeah well it also does all of the following.. OOOH HOW FUN! (fuckwits)
It causes schizophrenia (that is a FACT)
depression
Psychosis
Anxiety
Paranoia
along with so many other mental illnesses and physical
Stomach ulcers
Neck/Throat/Stomach/Mouth Cancer
The Australian government has made sure to educate our youth and public on the harmful effects of marijuana, do other countries not do this?
I see why people smoke it and I know from personal experience what it can be like - the good and the bad.
My friend started smoking at 12.
He is 18 and has serious schizophrenia caused by marijuana abuse.
Smoking every day had me diagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression.
Have fun fucking your bodies up guys!
Why hello...
First of all, the mental disorder known as "schizophrenia" is actually caused by frustrated delusions of grandeur, such as imagining that you are the President of The United States of America and other much worse delusions and other deceptions of self. Further more, smoking copius amounts of weed is really and impossibility, I know people who say they have smoked copius amounts of weed(read Dee Dee Ramone's "Lobotomy"), though I have never seen it first person. A "huge" blunt in a music video really dosen't represent "copius" amounts of weed. All of the mental disorders you have mentioned can be brought on merely by living a stressful lifestyle. If anything, you were probably afflicted with the above mentioned mental disorders from the stress of the criminal consequences of being caught with marijuana by "state authorities".
Decriminalzation with community support is really the way to go. Check out Vancouver BC for instance. Vancouver BC is beautiful city with a very lenient marijuana policy, so was New York City, Manhattan, in the early part of the twentieth century.
So while you obviously feel very strongly about this, please check out the facts, such as if you're throwing up from smoking too much pot, you're probably suffering from oxygen deprivation or carbon dioxide poisoning which you can get from smoking a cigarette.
No one is forcing you to smoke pot. If you're charmed by the adult images portrayed by Cheech and Chong, Cameron Crowe's depictions of teenagers, the works of O'Henry, Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs, Thomas Wolfe, the music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Cypress Hill, and so many others, and while you can point out that I've mentioned no women artists in this response, it's merely because I'm not going through your closet looking for something to wear.
Good luck with your further research into this topic.
@purity_within@xanga - Alrighty then. IAnd if you eat a Big Mac everyday, you're probably one burger away from a heart attack. There's a thing called moderation. YES you will develop disorders if you smoke it EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE. I know very few people who smoke marijuana every single day, and the ones that do, abuse other drugs as well, (i.e. ecstasy, and meth).
I don't know anyone who smokes pot to the point of throwing up. That kind of takes the whole "lets get relaxed" part out of it. You have to seriously want to abuse drugs to get to that point.
Just legalize it. Seriously. If you don't abuse it, you won't have problems, just like with anything else in your life. Moderation is key, and what better thing then relaxed people?
Doesn't surprise me I know plenty of people who smoke a little herb after a long day of work but I feel it is better then going to a bar getting drunk and driving home drunk!
@victoriaparker@xanga - I agree!
I recognize the ability of people to freely choose their vices though I advocate for a life free from dependencies. Not dependencies in the sense of being strung out on something to the point of withdrawl on a physical level, but in a mental level. There are plenty of ways to relax that are free and serve other purposes in the process. =)
Nonetheless, legalize the herb. Watch the crime rate plummet.
@purity_within@xanga - from what you wrote i can see that u dont know much about weed and probably have never really tried it.all the anxiety and paranoia depression etc. u mentioned comes sometimes with the high. its not a permenant thing. and when i say sometimes i mean it if ur having any of those feelings when ur high ur havin a bad trip. reason is probly cuz u had bad weed or u just started. also it doesnt "fuck up ur body" there are minimal health issues involving marijuana and all those cancers u listed there is not even proven so u were just spewing bullshit out of ur gay little mouth. and i also c u hav a very bad stereotype for stoners, what u need to know that it depends on who the person is not if they smoke weed or not. and also its almost impossible to OD on weed cuz u would hav to smoke more than ur body weight in less than an hour and b4 u could do that u would pass out anyways. so seeing all the bullshit that u were saying just proves ur an ignorant fuck who doesnt know anything about weed and needs to drop some balls. i really want to punch u right now but this is the internet so ill jus say this. GO SUCK A DICK FAGGOT UR MOM MADE THE MISTAKE OF NOT HAVING THAT ABORTION THE DOCTOR RECOMMENDED TO HER GO DIE IN A HOLE. thank you.
@striemmy@xanga - oops did i write to u? or not? idk well if i did im sorry i meant it for the faggot named shy away or watever
@stoner - Ha Ha gosh that reply made me laugh! Like I'm really going to listen to someone with the spelling and grammar of a 7 year old.
