When trying to save money and finding the best deals on clothes and other miscellaneous items it helps to do your homework and research.
I recently went on vacation to California and albeit I love the Golden state I certainly didn't know where to find all the best bargains in town.
So I ventured around the bay area knowing that Buffalo Exchange was somewhere near in sight and wanted to find all the best thrifts, consignments, and on the weekends garage sales in the area. As I have seen from my local bargain hunting that the economy has taken quite a toll on bargain hunters and have forced many to sell off their great clothes and household items that they have accumulated over the past couple of years at bargain basement prices.
What I did was I first looked for garage sales in the bay area and came across this site:
http://www.garagesalestracker.com which has thrifts, consignments, flea markets, and yard sales all in one place. To say I was ecstatic might have been an understatement. None the less I received turn by turn directions from Google maps to Haigh-Ashbury and never looked back.
All in all I spent $186.93 at 4 different stores and can total over 27 various items.
Now a few years ago if I were to shop at a bloomingdales or Nordstrom's I would be lucky to have purchased two items for that kind of price tag but with the new estate sale economy picking up steam I wouldn't be reluctant as most previously might have been to find the right thrifts to purchase clothes and other great items.
One last note I thought it would be great to have an iPhone application that mapped all this out for me and I suggested it to
http://www.garagesalestracker.com and they said the surprise may just be closer than I think so be on the lookout for the bargains!

Oh, that sounds like a profitable experience.
Anyone in the DC area should check out my favorite thrift store, Mustard Seed, in Bethesda. They sell store-brand clothes from places like J Crew, the Gap, Abercrombie, etc. only slightly used for reallly cheap, like $4–$12 per item.
