  • How To Save Money On Your Bills

Bills suck, but they're a fact of life. But that doesn't mean you can't go down fighting. Thinkyourwaytowealth.com had a great post about the little things you can do to cut down on your bills. After all, any little bit can help right?

They recommend that, every once in awhile, you:

-Check your bills for errors or unnecessary fees

-Pay bills electronically to avoid postage

-Pay your bills on time or ahead of time

-Be direct and ask for a discount

-Review the services you're paying for

-Try doing without (get rid of unnecessary services)

-Make a conscious effort to reduce variable bills

Have you been able to cut down on your bills? How did you do it?

Why pay bills ahead of time. To let the companies collect the
interest on your hard-earned cash? Pay when it's due. Not early, not
    late.

I pay my credit card bills online, so I get to save on postage there. However, for my electricity, internet, utilities, and rent, it's better to pay for those bills via snail mail (or just walking to the office) because it costs more in service charges than to just stick a stamp on an envelope.

I do try to conserve electricity and don't have cable, so I try to save a little somewhere.

I pay all my bills online.  I get paid every-other-week so I set up the bill pay to deduct 1/2 payments each payday.  That way I'm not hit hard some pay periods.  It is a constant deduction and I am actually ahead on my car payment using this method.  Also, during the summer I wash one load of laundry every day (or almost every day) and hang it outside to dry.  This has saved me alot in propane costs and I'm hoping to use my clothes rack more this winter for drying too (not everything since it takes longer to dry on a rack).  I am presently trying to come up with a way to eliminate our landline since this costs us almost $30 month and we get so very few calls.  I use Tracfone for cell service but I'm not sure if I want only to relay on them for all my phone needs.

My husband and I recently gave up on cable. $30 + per month when we very regularly whined to each other about how there was nothing on! So far, he misses ESPN and I miss the Food Network, but yay! for online episodes, so we waste less time in front of the TV and only seek out those shows we actually like. Money savings + Time savings = Yay!

Turning off the lights whenever you leave a room can reduce electricity bills, as can abandoning the use of an electric toothbrush, using air conditioning only when the heat is absolutely unbearable and turning central heating down to a level where you need to wear proper clothes but are not cold once doing so.
