Its easy to flip through the channels on television on a weeknight after a long day of school/work. With the fall season coming up, we can all be excited for great shows coming back and new ones to begin. With new television shows come new commercials, new advertisements, new trends and things to look out for. For instance, Gossip Girl returned with a big buzz in Season Two with the "back to school" episodes. Interesting enough to say, the infamous White party the socialites attended was sponsored by good ole Vitamin Water. Coincidence? I think not.
I read an interesting article about one of the summer's hottest shows this season: Mad Men. Although I haven't personally watched it yet, there is buzz circulating about its upcoming product placement this season.
"The show's third season, which premiered Sunday (Aug. 16), featured placements with London Fog and Stolichnaya Vodka that both brands said were engineered."
Those are some heavy hitter names! And of course, its so ironic since the show is about advertising. It got me thinking to what other shows endorse products, whether subconsciously or blatantly.
The Office and Chili's: Yum! Nothing like John Krasinski and some baby back ribs. Okay. Besides that being a great combo in itself, The Office has featured many episodes with Chili's being a place of interest for our favorite Scranton-ites.
Heroes and Sprint: This is probably one of the more obvious partnerships where Heroes features "Sprint Heroes Extras" with exclusive content available through Sprint phones. There was even an episode where Elle uses a Sprint phone.
The Biggest Loser and Extra Gum: Another obvious, but actually helpful product placement. For me, it has become a daily routine to chew gum as a way to fight cravings. The Biggest Loser and Extra teamed up to not only promote 5 calorie gum chewing, but to successfully help those trying to lose weight.
Americas Next Top Model and Cover Girl: Who wouldn't want to be an Easy Breezy Beautiful Cover Girl... for Americas Next Top Model. Not only do the girls get to play with a lot of makeup, but Cover Girl sponsors part of the prize each season for the winner of the competition.
What are some product placements you can think of? Do they really make you think about purchasing these products?Read more

no they really dont.
Man, in asian dramas alot of them are sponsered by cellphone companies like nokia and such and the characters all have nice NEWEST technology phones and it makes you want them SOOO BAD because they are SO NICE! THat product placement gets me going.
uh huh sometimes, if i see someone drinking vitamin water or eating chocolate or something i'll get hungry and walk my fat ass over to the fridge.
antm is so horrible with it. other than the obvious photoshoot and prizes, every time the make up artist puts something on, the name is clearly visible and the girl says (with terrible acting skills) something like, "wow it goes on so smoothly!"
that one lipstick with the trail leading up to it kind of reminds me of a tampon. wtf.
GOOOD
I love ANTM. And the fact that you used Allison as your picture, just made me read this. lol.
But I do agree with you. I see it a lot in TV shows, although I don't really think that it's fair with the competition shows. Especially Top Model, since...that's their job. lol. And Wasn't American Idol sponsored by AT&T so they always told you to vote with your AT&T cellphone or whatever?ugh, yeah America's Next Top Model is the worst at advertising... all of those shows are so obvious with it.
it's funny when products don't sponser the show, so they either change the name of the product. like, in Drake and Josh they say "Wintendo" instead of "Nintendo" and it's a Pear laptop not an Apple xD
Haha I wrote a "novel" on this for English class once. In Ferris Bueller's Day Off, in the scene where Rooney harasses a girl he mistakes for Ferris, she spits Pepsi on him through her straw. Subtle product placement ftw.
ANTM also has a product placement for Seventeen and ELLE Mag. It got my friend to buy an ELLE subscription. Its horrible
@ordinary_gir1@xanga - i always see them using the newest sony ericssons !
