  • Funny Money: Getting A Fake Bill

Imagine what it would be like if money trees existed. If we could turn Monopoly money into real dollars. I remember being a kid and drawing fake dollar bills and going to my mom and asking her if I could go to the corner store to buy candy. Nice try. None of these situations could ever happen. Well, there are those that print fake money.

The art of counterfeiting money is not only dangerous, but it is a federal crime. Luckily, I have never encountered a fake bill. Unfortunately, for a little girl in Seattle, some jerk gave her a fake twenty dollar bill for her sale of lemonade. Someone should tell this guy you should never take money from a child! All the ten-year old girl wanted to do was make some extra cash for school supplies. Her parents realized the bill was fake when they tried to use it at a local store. After notifying the police, they learned that their town was full of criminals getting involved in similar crimes at garage sales and other local markets.

OMG I can't believe such creeps exist that they are out there ripping off a kid!  Yes, I have received many counterfeit bills as I used to work in a fast food restaurant.  We'd tell the customer that it was a fake and confiscate. the bill.  I would tell the store manager and she'd take care of it so I do not know if it was reported.  This post is a good way to increase awareness to people to be more careful when receiving/changing cash.

Other situations I encountered while as a cashier:
    * There was a customer who always ordered one $1 item, pay at the drive thru window with a $20 and then change his mind and want to pay with small bills after you've started counting out the change and confuse you so you end up giving the $20 bill back and $19 in change.
    * Once received a $50 bill that looked a little off, it was probably because it was really smooth and worn but the printing on it was clear and looked new.  Marked with the counterfeit pen and it came up as being the real deal.  After examining it, it turned out to be a $5 bill that had been scrubbed clean and re-printed as a $50.

So people, in this unstable economy, be careful when handling cash!

I used to work at a bank so they taught me how to see if a bill is fake.

@babybug329@xanga - At my job this man bought a drink with a 100 dollar bill and ended up confusing my co-worker so she ended up giving him back $198 in change.  Poor girl :(

    What?!?!

My dad works for a company that prints flyers for night club so they handle lots of cash.  Being a head manager my dad gets partly paid in cash (tips and commission) and part in check form.  Once he got paid a fake $100 that was given to the company owner who accidentally passed it off to my dad.  The next day my mom got into huge trouble when she was at the bank trying to deposit a check and $850 when one of the bills was noticeably fake.
Luckily my dads boss gave my dad a legal bill to replace the fake note, but the company later learned that there were 14 other fake bills that came as "payment" for a $1500 job.
