Clean Your House on the Cheap With Baking Soda
In these times, a nice clean house can really strengthen morale. That is, if you can afford all of the cleaning products necessary. At the store about a week ago, I realized that if I bought all of the cleaning products I wanted to clean my home, it would cost more than an entire grocery shopping trip for my family.
So I did some research. It didn't take long before I ran into a classic, but often overlooked, do-it-all product: Baking Soda. People all over the internet are talking about how you can clean just about anything with Baking Soda. I was skeptical, but willing to give it a try.
The verdict: this stuff is amazing. I cleaned my entire kitchen with a Baking Soda and water mixture, that is floors, counters, sink, microwave, stove, everything. It was absolutely spotless. I had hardly used any of the box either, and it was only about a dollar-and-a-half at the grocery store.
Have you had success cleaning with baking soda? What are some other homemade cleaning solutions you've tried?

Yes, I clean everything with either baking soda or vinegar, or both! Best of all, besides being cost efficient, it's the most pet-and-environmentally friendly way.
I also use baking soda and apple cider vinegar (separately) in a shampoo-free concoction for cleansing and conditioning hair. Simplicity is far too overlooked nowadays. :)
Baking soda and vinegar.....to clean soap scum, etc. in the shower and such I use shampoo!
WTF?! I really should try this... I don't like spraying things and since it hasn't reached the surface and is still in the air... I inhale accidentally. & cough like crazy. Thanks!
i've never tried it...but i guess i should ;)
Baking soda does everything.
@hiiiilaura@xanga - Agreed.
It's really a great cleaner. Extremely cheap, too =D
@S0N1@xanga - It's the best, because it keeps your teeth, your litterbox, your refridgerator, uses in baking, and now THIS !
I use baking soda for cleaning my ceramic pots. It works great for taking out tea and coffee stains. I use it for baking and in the refrigerator, in the wash and keeping teeth clean also. I will have to try cleaning the floors, counters, and sink with that solution.
Interesting... I have been a slave to using way to much bleach and damn near killing myself using other products. Im gonna try this tonight.
@enterthelabyrinth@xanga - yea, i read about shampoo too, haven't tried it yet. : )
@Complexitii@xanga - Baking soda can even get thru grease/gum/stickiness really well.
it is so great....and harmless...no smell.@rhiannonator@xanga - Totally cleans a good portion of soap scum/bathroom stuff away. That is, as long as its not caked in soap scum, then I use borax
@Suesbooks@momaroo - When I moved in to my last apartment there was a lot of caked on grease around the stove burners..and I must say, scrubbing with baking soda and then letting some vinegar react with it, scrubbing some more....was the ONLY thing that got it out...not even the industrial cleaners could tackle it. I use baking soda on ceramics too!
