Do You Steal From The Self-Checkout?
In discussion of the post "A Rant on the Self-Checkout," there seems to be a popular debate over stealing from the self-checkout lanes. Do self-checkout lanes increase your desire to steal merchandise? Have you ever done it? Would you ever do it?

Noope, I have never done it and I wouldn't do it.
i'd try it, next time I go to Albertsons :)
But other than that, no.
@abDer@xanga - The slave labor walmart encourages by outsourcing is hardly defensible. If enough people steal from them, maybe their prices will get so high they'll go out of business and stop abusing the children of foreign nations.
nope. i feel bad for the company for losing money.
i accidentally stole a box of cereal once way back when self checkouts where brand new. the machine wasn't scanning things properly and i tried really hard to make sure it scanned everything i was buying, but i ended up accidentally stealing a box of cereal. i noticed later when i was looking at the recipe, but i felt like too much of an idiot to go back to the store.
Nope. I rarely use the self-checkout machines, actually. And if I did still, I probably would feel really guilty.
I don't steal, I just ring up all my produce for whatever is on sale that week. :D
I don't use the self-check-out because I'm lazy. I worked in retail for years. Now it is time for someone ELSE to ring up my shit.
As for stealing, I do it. On occasion. And no, I don't feel bad about it.
@xPsYc0x8yTcHx@xanga - the company may make a lot of money but the employees don't.. the employees are the ones that are affected when people steal not the company.
i wouldnt steal.
No, they dont make me want to.
But yes, under the most stressful, terrible situation, I would do it.
When did Dollarish go from tips for honest money-saving to tricks for developing sticky fingers?
Stealing is wrong.
No! They have cameras at each checkout lane and a person watching you while you check out, at least this is the way at the places I shop at with self check out.
My friends and I used to stay stealing donuts by just ringing in one or two and taking like six. We got caught one day though, and we kinda don't do it anymore.
I remember a postsecret postcard stating that they weigh all their produce as bananas...ingenious, though I'd never do it.
Never ever ever.
I'm too honest to steal. Too paranoid too. Plus, the self check out I go to has a scale under the bags so if you put something extra in the bag that you didn't scan, the computer lets you know that there is an unrecognized item in the bag.
Um, no. I think one time I got home and realized that I didn't scan the correct number of multiple items (as in, I was buying 5 cans of corn and I only scanned 4), but there have also been many times when I've double scanned items, so IMO (esp when it's from the same store) it all works out in the end. Have I ever done it INTENTIONALLY? No way.
No. But I probably would if I weren't so scared to do it. l0l.
When you steal from stores like Walmart, you don't really affect anything. Â They have a certain percentage that they are allowed, depending on their area, wo write off as stolen merchandise. Â It does however, make the employee running the self checkout look like an asshole if you go through and obviously steal. Â If you're going to steal something at WM, the best time to do it is when they are really busy... the cashier is busy helping everyone (or just pick a time when a lazy teenager is lounging across the counter not paying attention) and they will just hit the button no matter how much crap you put in the bag. Â Don't make it look obvious though, or they will get wise and come "Help you". Â Stealing is bad though, so you shouldn't do it. Â The mail file idea was pretty good lol.
No. Then they would get rid of self check outs and that's annoying, those things are convenient!
It never crosses my mind. Plus at all the stores I go to they have 1 or 2 attendants walking around the self checkouts watching everybody. And if you put something in the bag without scanning it, the computer yells at you to take it out and scan it. I'm sure there are ways around it, but I would never think to try.
@abDer@xanga - so that's why Hot Topic is so expensive. Bahahahaha. |D
@Sammyhellsyea@xanga - thats a smart ass idea lol.
No, there will be little chance someone getting away with do this, having someone watching the self service checkouts on tv, and those bleepers going off if something which has not been scanned.
