Do You Steal From The Self-Checkout?
In discussion of the post "A Rant on the Self-Checkout," there seems to be a popular debate over stealing from the self-checkout lanes. Do self-checkout lanes increase your desire to steal merchandise? Have you ever done it? Would you ever do it?

It's really tempting, groceries are expensive, but I could never do it.
Uhhhh, no.
its never crossed my mind.
no o_o
I don't steal. If I stole, the guilt would probably overwhelm me.
No, but I do know friends who have done that.
Once Wal-Mart was packed and it was late, we self-checkouted to try and get out as fast as we could. I realized as I was checking out that the fishing pole I was about to purchase did not have a price tag on it. I looked around and quickly realized it might have added an hour to my trip to try and find an employee to price check the item and add it to my receipt, so yes ONCE I stole from the self-check out.
yup it's easy woooooo
uhh yess. it's hard being an inner city broke ass college student. times is hard and all there is to eat around my job is a safeway -_-
there is no shame, that company makes so much money anyways, some lifting isn't going to do it any harm. idgaf
stealing increases the costs for other people. other honest people who work hard for their money. so some lifting WILL do harm. @xPsYc0x8yTcHx@xanga -
Would I even be a teacher, if I couldn't be an honest person? There is no way I could stand up and preach to my kids, and put them on the right path. I'm not saying I am perfect, but to slip something through self-check out. It has never crossed my mind.
nope
theres always people watching over the self checkouts
and I dont want to get caught
since I'm at the age that will definitely get in trouble If i do
It's easier to steal cash from a manned register actually.
Honestly... the grocery store near me uses opaque bags for their bakery goods, so I sometimes put four muffins in it, and tell the machine there's just one. ;x
one time my ex and i were at walmart and went thru the self checkout lane, we paid for everything in our basket and then i put the change in my wallet. when we went out later that night for drinks, i pulled out the cash that i had in my wallet and noticed there was a 20 dollar bill that was additional, i asked him if it was his, and he said that he didn't put money in my wallet, the only thing i could come to was that it was probably change from the person before us. by that time, it was too late to go back so we paid for the drinks that night with the $20.
nope i never stole from the self checkout. it's come across my mind but there's either sales people gawking at you OR the camera above it is enough for me to just pay for the stuff =0
Sometimes my dad and I forget to add the bananas, or muffins, or some items.Â
But it's not really on purpose.. and my dad thinks that the grocery store owes HIM for using reusable bags.
no
Never thought about it until that rant against self-checkout lanes. And now.... I kinda want to try it. Thanks Ms. Ranter!
Man, if I did, I would be so overwhelmed with guilt. I once wrote a whole outline for my friend because i forgot to let him borrow one of the guidebooks from class, and he already found one, but I still felt bad. So, if I were to steal, I might end up paying it all back by going back and paying for it. :[
I don't steal, period.
No. I must live in a bad part of town/state, because if you so much as looked like you weren't going to swipe your item across the scanner, you'd have several employees and security guards on you in a minute. Not to mention that area is heavily monitored by cameras.
I guess I've only done self-check out in Walmart, Kroger and Lowe's food though, so I'm not sure how it is set up in other stores.
Yep. I always make sure I have enough money to cover the purchase so if I get caught I can just claim I didn't realize it didn't scan. And usually I take a nail file or something small thats less than a dollar and hold it under like a $40 box of Crest whitestrips and scan the wrong barcode. It feels great to save $40.
@Sammyhellsyea@xanga - Slick. Haha
How on earth do people steal??? I have enough jitters just going through the checkout thinking that someone might think I'm stealing when I'm not stealing - you know, excessive paranoia about someone thinking that I might do something that I would never do!
