  • CD's: A Thing of the Past?

Every Tuesday, I used to look forward to the release of new CD's at my local HMV music store. This was years ago when HMV was actually up and running. With everyone having an iPod and having multiple ways of downloading music straight on to it, CD sales have plummeted. My sister told me she was looking forward to the new Maxwell CD and still enjoys spending money and supporting the hard work of the artist. She is probably the only person I know that still purchases CDs.

Do you still spend money on CDs? Do you prefer having the hard copy or do you just fill your iPod with music online?

i rarely buy cd's. only the ones that i know are really good by my favorite singers/bands. eventhough i rarely listen to them. but they're handy for long distance driving. it's a way to support those great music artists.

I prefer my iPod so I can have a soundtrack to my life (hehe!) but I use cd's in my car b/c it's cheaper to burn them than it is to install an aux hookup in my car, lol. And your sister's got good taste... that Maxwell cd is hott!! ;)

I rarely buy CD's, but they are good for supporting local and less famous artists (e.g. buying them at a live performance).  With my longtime favorite bands, I go ahead and buy the CD from Wal-Mart because I actually will want to sample every track and I can possibly get a better deal than iTunes.  Finally, I like used CD stores because it is a good chance to get a better deal on older music, classical music, etc. that iTunes would not give you.  So I hope they don't go away...

I have a device (from Wal-Mart) which makes it easy to play CDs in the car; it transmits it through a lower numbered radio station.  Just use this (relatively small, inexpensive) device along with a car charger, feed it batteries every once in a while, and no more having to make CDs.  I do like to burn them sometimes though, for places where there won't be an iPod dock or computer.

I usually download cds. I'd like to have the hard copy of the cd but unfortunately I don't have the money for that.

I've only bought one CD in my life because it came with a freebie, and the artist who made it is one I would absolutely, whole heartedly forever support.

Otherwise, I've always downloaded. I don't have/use an iPod but I have a music player on my Nintendo DS for portability, and my brothers bought a buttload of blank CDs so I just burn them for the car. *shrug*

if i like most of the songs on the cd i will buy it. if i only like 1 or 2 i'll download it.

it seems like cd's really are, because people just buy music from itunes or wherever for their ipod. but i work at best buy, and there are still TONS of people buying cd's everyday, it's crazy.

  • eskeemo_kisses@xanga

I still buy cds. I do transfer them to my ipod..sometimes, but I love my cds.

I love having CDs. I don't really know why. I just do.

I actually just got my new Job For A Cowboy CD in the mail today and I'm waiting for two others.

    @ViciousGrin63@xanga - How's the new CD?

I like CDs because I can rip them at 320kbps.  None of that itunes 128kbps shit.  I'm thinking about getting one of those pay $15 a month for unlimited music deals.  The Zune store has even the most obscure CDs from bands like Ale Storm and Amon Amarth. Zune store has WAV files at 192kbps which is ok.  I doubt I will find much better...

Yeah, I still buy CDs. And will keep buying CDs till they either go out of style or they don't sell them in the store I go to. Haha! Then, I'll go ahead and get MP3s, if the album is really good. I'm to CDs what the older generaion was to vinyl.

I'm loyal to old school technology like a $30 CD player. CDs are even cheap enough, too. If you break or lose an iPod, you have to pay more than 100 bones for another, if you didn't keep the warranty. Not to mention, if your computer crashes, the albums you had are gone, if you aren't careful. I'm not going through that crap! Haha!

Plus, everytime I listen to a CD, I like to look at the artwork in the CD jacket sleeves, read lyrics, look at liner notes, all that mess.

I mess around with both CDs and MP3s though, all legal downloads, though.

CDs won't die as long as I am standing. Haha! I make demos on CDs.

There is no reason to get the CD and it's actually an inconvenience because I can't easily put it on my iPod.  I do download and pay for bands I like though, because I have a job.

  • Audiofreak18@xanga

I LOVE CDs!! I gotta have the hard copy.

  • my_final_username@xanga

I rarely listen to music (we have the radio on at work and at the training provider)  the last CD I bought was in 2004,  I dont own Ipod, somewhere I got a MP3.

meh. i have CDs but i stopped buying em a few years back... im not too high class to borrow from my friends tho ^^

  • abh816@xanga

I haven't bought a CD (unless it was a local band) in about 4 years, since I got my first iPod.

  • xHelloxTreasurex@xanga

I will admit, i do tend to get everything by downloading it, but if an artist I really really like (and I happen to have the money) has a new album out, i will usually go out and buy it.I really do love having the artwork for the CD, but it is usually cheaper for me to get the album off of itunes.

  • shehastruth@xanga

i still buy cds!! It depends on how much I like the band. Used cds are pretty cheap on Amazon so I'll usually just buy a couple that I really like and put them in my car.

  • bangbangtrashit@xanga

I still buy CDs. I just bought two today...it depressed me how the CD aisles in Best Buy are now pushed to the side and narrow. I want to get into music, so seeing that depresses me...

  • Morago_san@xanga

I still buy CDs. I'll rip them onto my computer and then listen to them in my car. It's the only time I really listen to the CD but I always prefer buying them.

  • Liquid_Pain_523@xanga

It's an exaggeration how much CD sales have gone down. If they'd dropped that much, Lil' Wayne wouldn't have sold 1 million albums of the Carter III in a week. Yes, illegal downloading has hurt the music industry, but that's nothing compared to what it's done to movies. I buy hard copies of CDs by artists I want to support because of their talent.

  • redmakesmeblue@xanga

I don't buy CDs. I borrow them from the library and put them into my itunes. I know my family and friends still buy them though.
