  • Kids Making Money

When I was a kid, I used to think of creative ways to make money. I loved to have "sales" with my friends. Though a lemonade stand is the most classic, we would set up our "shop" and try to sell anything from cherries that we picked off a tree down the street, bookmarks that we made (crookedly cut paper with horrible crayon drawings), or string bracelets. One time my friend and I sat at the end of my driveway playing our clarinets with the cases open, hoping to make money. I'm pretty sure the only passing person to throw in some money was my dad walking my dog.

At our worst, we hit rock bottom. Literally. We got the idea to stick our hands into a "wishing fountain" and pick up the coins that people had thrown in. Then we went to the store and bought candy with it.  We only got like 3 Tootsie Rolls, but to us it was amazing. Thinking back, I'll probably go to hell for being a thief, but hey, little kids do crazy stuff like that, right?

I'm wondering why I went through so many phases of making money. It's not like I had any bills to pay. I suppose even then I liked the financial freedom.

Did you ever think of crazy ways to make money as a kid?
