Are you donating your money to a good cause?
With cell phone bills, gas bills, commuting costs and other various expenses piling up, who could think about what they would do with some extra cash? Even if you have the extra cash to spare, for instance, if you're a millionaire with tons of money to throw around, what would you do with that money? There are so many causes to donate to from Aids, Breast Cancer, Poverty or Underprivileged children. If you had the money to do so, what charities would you donate to?

I've been donating to Heifer International lately.
This is a great question to bring up. My mom has worked in non-profit my entire life so I've had the opportunity to volunteer for lots of different organizations. One of the highest fundraising organizations--The American Cancer Society--actually donates some of the least of its funds to research. In fact, in 1988 the ACS spent only $90 million of its over $400 million fund balance— 26 percent of its budget— on medical research and programs.
People should really look into where their money is going. If you want to donate money, look for charities like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which spends 90 cents of every dollar on research. It's smart to know who you're helping. :)
I donate to the Canadian Cancer Society once a year when my friends and I do a stair climb, and if other opportunities come up to sponsor/support others for the CCS, I do that too. When I was in elementary school and had the frequent easy access, UNICEF was a regular one too (even if I didn't have all that much money to donate).
I did all of my Christmas gift shopping recently on http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com, which is joined with The Breast Cancer Site, The Rainforest Site, The Hunger Site, The Literacy Site, and The Child Health Site so I know that with my shopping and getting regular expenses I would have had later in the year out of the way, I was also supporting good causes. I spread all of my items through all of the websites and have kept track of what X's gift was able to provide for Y cause and am planning on letting them know when I give gifts out.
I want to sponsor a child or family through World Vision or a similar cause, but would need to look at my options and research which one I think would put my money to better use in providing for the child/family. I assume their many commercials and the numerous times they are aired are not cheap. Defenders of Wildlife also allows for "virtual animal adoptions", which I have always wanted to do, and there are cages at my humane society that need sponsoring so the animals can stay and receive the best food, health care, and comfort to be afforded. Unfortunately, they are currently too pricey for me.
Kiva, which is a microfinance organization. Basically, you act as a lender and lend funds to an entrepreneur (of your choice) so they can start a business and eventually sustain themselves. On the site, there's a profile of the recipient and you can keep tabs on how much he/she repays over time. Kiva has a high percentage of repayment and I can vouch for them. You don't even need much to lend either because there are other people lending to the same person.
I give mostly to small local charities or to individuals personally.
Money??The term "green" is on everyone's minds these days, whether it's getting more green as in making more money, or going green environmentally. The need for more green technology and practices is definitive, as the impact on our environment from our appetites for fossil fuel machinery and methods of generation electricity have taken a toll. An effort does have to be made to repair our planet, but many consider the loss of amenities to be too great to surmount. However, there are ways of getting by: solar water heating devices, electric high speed trains getting installed for public transport, and so forth. Ifyou start going a little more green, it's like giving a cash advance to the Earth.
I've had a world vision sponsor child for 2 or 3 years now. I signed up when I was 18, and I've been using part of my line of credit for school to pay for it!
@FireYourBoss@xanga - Kiva.org rocks. It's such a great idea.
I would donate it to Aids for antivirals for people who could not afford it and lived a lifestyle that was healthy, and put some to amnesty and probably education for ophans.
Wow! These are some great causes everyone! I would donate to AIDS research, pancreatic cancer (My Uncle recently passed away), Kidney Donor Foundation, Underprivileged Children of the world, wow... so many causes I feel deeply about I cant even list them all.
We set aside a bit of money each month to donate. I donate to a local animal shelter (http://www.animalhavenkc.org), my husband donates to St. Jude, and we both give to our church. Looking forward to the day when we can give more than we currently do.
I would like to donate to environmental protection agencies/causes, because most people are not aware of the consequences of our current lifestyles, and I wouldn't want my future children to have to live in a world like that. I'd also like to help eradicate world hunger; hopefully these are two causes I can participate in in the near future.
I have some money saved up. I want to give to WWF for $16 a month
Ones that do decent scientific research on herbal and nutritional medicine, probiotics etc. Then afterwards, I would make these "medicines"/foods readily available. I already donate to Central City Hospitality house in San Francisco, as well as the Bay Area charity "Project Open Hand". Both I love, and would continue to support. I also intend to reinovate an old hospital and start a lovely "off the grid"/self-sufficient sanatarium that would be non-profit. I would have immense joy if this dream could be achieved. :) I want people to be healthy and happy everywhere.
