I thought movie ticket prices were bad in New York. I can't imagine paying $19 to go to the movies!
I want to go to Tokyo ....
I wonder what they define as a 'quick lunch'.
Haha.... movie tickets are 9.50/10.00 where I live, in a south suburb of Chicago.
In the metro Detroit area, you can expect to pay anywhere from $4.50 to $10 for a movie ticket. It all depends on when you go. Evening showings almost always $9.50-$10, but if you go for a matinee showing at most places and on most days (even weekends at some places), it's cheap as hell. You can get two tickets for what you'd normally pay for one.
i live in no. 17 and i can assure you, there are pretty amazing places to grab lunch under $10 :]
I'm not really surprised. My boyfriend lives in Denmark (not in Copenhagen) and it is so much more expensive there when you convert the money.
Well, prices vary inside the city as well. Here, a movie ticket can be $3 to $11.50. It depends on the movie theater. The same goes for lunch.
there are $5 foot long subway sandwiches in manhattan too...
I'm surprised San Francisco wasn't up there with Manhattan.
I'm surprised we're measuring expensive cities by "quick lunches" and movie tickets lol
if you click on the original article, the other determining factors were the countries' prices of washing machines, a kilo of a rice, and a can of soda. hah
I like Basel. I'm not surprised about the list, except for Angola. I'm glad I don't live in an expensive city. How expensive a city is though isn't necessarily representative of the lifestyle. I know someone from Hawaii who said that things cost more there, but people don't need as much as they think they "need" here where everybody feels like you have to always have pricey clothes and expensive cars. Living in an expensive but down to earth place could be more economical than living in a cheap but superficial place.
@methodElevated@xanga - Wow, Detroit still has movie theaters?
What's a quick lunch? Fast food?
Panama City should be on there. It's getting ridiculous!
I thought for sure mine would be up there somewhere. is a "quick lunch" the same as fast food? cuz if it is then damn ...57 US dollars? I'd rather die of hunger then be so thoroughly ripped off.
@tastytimmm@xanga - lol I know i thought that was kind of weird too.
tokyo is ka$ching city :)
Thats difficult to believe about Angola - I live in South Africa - one country away and its not expensive for us to go. They must be ripping foreigners/westerners off.
well shit i'm not going to japan!
ack- looks like it's packeted noodles for me and my comrades when we set sail to tokyo then..
Fuck. I'm going to Swizerland this summer.
@ELIZerson@xanga - What suburb are you from? I'm in NC now but I'm originally from Chicago Heights. It's not often that I find other people on here who are from the 'mythical' south suburbs!
As for these expensive cities...sheesh, I thought Cook County was bad.
Oh geez. I really have to save up if I want to go to Tokyo now...
Well I guess I cannot complain about prices where I live anymore (San Diego, CA). Damn and I wanted to go to Tokyo too haha.
