    well when I am working I can make from $75,000 to $125,000 depending on the job *I am a Database Administrator*.  But I have not been employed since August 2008 and I would say I have made about $20,000 this year.

    It depends on who it is that asks me. If it's a co-worker that I know is making a lot less than me, I may fudge on the lower side. If it's a government official, then I'm definitely going to tell the truth. If it's my grandmother that constantly worries about everything, then I'm going to fudge a little on the higher side.

    It's on a need-to-know basis.

    I would have to agree withADEsquared on that, nothing gets things hotter around work than the forever gossip about who was a little luckier ...or too much luckier than seemed fair...than the rest.  Publically, I try to avoid the big money mentions too, it brings too many problems, depending on the neutral times and in private, it isn't that big a deal.  but ask a person not bringing in great money to be honest about that on a dating site!!!  Oh and it never pays to lie to the government, they don't like jokes.

    When talking to a pretty girl, I fib on the high side... VERY HIGH.

    lol jk with friends, I'm honest. With strangers/acquaintances, I say I'm not comfortable saying lol

    Than again, I'm still in college and when you work at the university, they don't pay students very well at all. In fact, everyone who works at the university gets shafted, even the professors.

    The ones who really shouldn't get paid 500k a year is those chancellors!!! What do they do that warrants 500k a year?!!?! Why are the general managers of departments and buildings getting the pay cuts.

    This post made me mad...

    lol but seriously, school's need to wise-up on who gets pay cuts and who deserves raises... probably a conspiracy amongst the higher ups and the state... grrr

    I would be truthful, I don't think it's a really big deal.  Plus, the pay scale for the district I teach in is online, so if you knew how long I'd been a teacher + the fact I have a master's, it would be easy to figure out what I make.

  • mustardcat@xanga

    I keep that info to myself.

    Always truthful.  Always vague.

    @methodElevated@xanga -  i agree...

    why do people need to know how much i make?  i would only disclose this amount to my SO and my loan officer if was in the market for a house.
  • princess1505angel@xanga

    People always assume I make boatloads so I have to set them straight, but vaguely.  I tell the truth to the government (I'm not an idiot) and my parents (who worry) but I tend to downplay it to coworkers and friends (no need for animosity or expectations).
