Ways To Get Free Groceries Every Week
In times of economic hardship, any free item has value. Bargainist.com has steps on how to get free weekly groceries. You're probably already doing some of these things.
If you are, keep it up and let us know how it's working for you.
For the rest of us, here are some tips from the Bargainist on how to get free groceries every week.
Get the Sunday Paper
Think of the ads in the Sunday paper as your play book. It’s a treasure map to all the freebies. Start with the major drug store chains. Each week they give away free items like toothpaste, face wash, and razors. Find out which items are free, make a list and only get the free items.Learn the Game
In order to get the most free stuff, you must learn to play the game. For instance, this week at Walgreens Bayer Quick Release Crystals are $2.49. But when you buy them you’ll receive $2.49 in Register Rewards. Register Rewards can be used almost like a Walgreens gift certificate on your next purchase. Let’s say you took that $2.49 in Register Rewards and used it to by Colgate Wave Total Toothpaste which costs $2.49. You’d get the toothpaste for free, plus another $1.50 in Register Rewards for buying the toothpaste. That means you would have spent $2.49 out of pocket, gone home with the Bayer and the toothpaste, plus $1.50 to spend during your next trip. At CVS, the game is similar but instead of Register Rewards, you receive Extra Care Bucks. It’s a good deal if you can learn how to play the game.Combine Sales and Coupons
This week I walked away with free dog treats, steak sauce, salad dressing, and barbeque sauce from my local Publix grocery store. I did that by combining sales with coupons. Many grocery stores offer similar steals. For the rest of the list, check out the Bargainist post here.
Are you already doing these things to get free stuff? What are some other tips that work for you?

Some places are more restrictive than they used to be too, rejecting double dipping coupons and price matches and can be annoying about internet printed coupons or having multiple CVS accounts, etc.
But yes it still works for the most part. Main thing is just not to get carried away and ending up spending money you don't have to and ending up with a lot of junk you don't really need.
There are some claims about never spending any money on food or anything but I've never been able to achieve anywhere near that good a return consistently and I wonder if it's even possible anymore. And if it is, I have to wonder if the cost in time doesn't substantially make up for the money saved. A few tricks might not suck up too much time but a bunch can get ridiculous fast.
I know we are using coupons more these days. Also, I just started as a cashier at Walmart, and it's amazing how much people save by doing these very things!
i would love to use coupons all the time, but i'm too disorganized to keep track of more than one coupon at a time haha
Well here in Texas we have H.E.B.'s. In the ads they let you know what items you have to buy at regular price and you will get several items free...for example: If you buy ball park hot dogs you'll get the hot dog buns, ketchup, chips and mustard for free =). It's great!
