I've always used generic brands, unless it's Cheez-Its—the generic brand just isn't as good. And toothpaste. I use well-known brands because generics scare me.

My favorite crispy cheese curls are the Aldi's brand.  They are always only $0.99 per bag!  I use lots of other off brands and generics as well.  When you are making a casserole or mixing the ingredients, the brand often doesnt matter!

@GodArt@xanga - yeah generic toothpaste would scare me as well, having your teeth fall of instantly lol

@der_lila_Stern@xanga - Aldi is where it's at! Aaaaawesome.

There are a lot of generic foods in my apartment. More Easy Mac than I know what to do with.

    11 11 make a wish.  ^^  =P

I always bought generic stuff before.  /shrug
Generic cereal tastes better than name brand anyway.

I've always used and preferred generic brands. I will not spend twice as much or more on a product just because it has a name on it. The name itself doesn't make it taste or function any better.

We have been going generic for so long that we think the generic brands taste better than the name brands.

  • dartarro_21@xanga

Hell yes, generic brand all the way.

Why pay so much extra for exactly the same product? It tastes/works the same way. I've never understood that.

The other day I bought a bottle of glass cleaner for 99 cents, when the Windex brand was almost 3 dollars.

I like getting store brand cereals, like those huge family sized boxes of corn flakes I can get for like 1.50 & it lasts for a month or more, since its just 2 people here. As for canned fruits, screw dole, I go safeway.

  • la_faerie_joyeuse@xanga

Depends. Usually for most products I consume often, I try both the generic and the name brand. If the name brand works significantly better, I get that.

Like, you will NEVER ween me off of charmin toilet paper.

My family have always used store/generic brands.. and it trickled down to me in college... and I don't mind it. I laugh at people who blow lots of money on name-brand stuff. Though, at the same time, I'm the type of person who can't justify spending $9 on body wash or something at Bath & Body Works. Soap works just fine for me... even if I do make enough money now to buy something else. To me, there's just no point if I'm going to wash it down a drain.

  • NavajoPrincess27@xanga

We used to buy whatever was cheapest and it's not always the generic brand.
Now we buy whatever is best for the environment.  Usually it's the generic brands.
When we drink soda's we never buy generic.

  • None_May_Have_Her@xanga

Aw yeah Crispy Hexagons are the shizzit!

  • Kristenmomof3@xanga

we buy a lot of generic. It tastes the same. We shop at a thrift grocery store and then what we can't get there we get at Weis. Weis "brand" stuff is just as good as name brand.

  • Sehsun@xanga

I like generic brands of Cheerios WAY better (sometimes called Toasted Oats). I also buy generic yogurt, cream cheese, and oatmeal (both old-fashioned and instant).

I will not buy generic soy milk yet because they don't come in light varieties. I also do not buy generic sanitary pads or toilet paper. I need my Cottonelle with Aloe.

  • x0__Ellie@xanga

My mom once tricked me and packed some "toasted oats" for me to take to work..and I thought they were cheerios....til I looked at them. I glared at them for a while, exclaimed that my mom tricked me! ...but when I tried them, I took it back. They tasted good, and didn't get soggy too quickly :D

We're slowwwwly getting generic stuff. I guess I have to learn quick because I really hate spending my money...it makes me sad =P

  • sturgis9@xanga

I've been getting generic brand things since I moved out on my own a few months ago.. And I love all the money I save! I'm a very picky eater, so not everything has gone so well, but for the most part I can buy the off-brand for my meals!

WalMart's brand of Chex Mix I couldn't do.. It had to be the real thing.. Then I discovered Aldi's! Their stuff.. Clancy's brand Party Mix.. is delish. :]

I've even switched to the off brand for my dairy and frequently go to the discount stores before the supermarket, if I have a need to go there at all!

  • mysteriousromantic@xanga

I've been doing generic for 6 months now and its been great. I buy most items (food and household items) under a generic brand but one thing I will not buy generic is my conditioner.
